Dishing dirt on indulgent Scud
FORMER tennis ace Mark Philippoussis's ex-girlfriend has severed all ties with him, telling of his wild spending and poor work ethic.
Speaking publicly for the first time since their split two years ago, Tennessee cheerleader Amanda Salinas, 28, described how the Scud indulged his lust for flash cars, the latest gadgets and a home at the beach.
"He bought some outrageous things. He loved gadgets," the finance worker said.
Ms Salinas said that during their five-month relationship after meeting on US reality TV show Age of Love in 2007, Philippoussis had whimsically severed an expensive Las Vegas lease so he could live by the beach and surf. "He just didn't think things through," she said.
Philippoussis, who admits he is in financial dire straits despite pocketing $8 million prize money, is working with debt collectors to keep his home near Newcastle, which was passed in at auction last month.
Ms Salinas said Philippoussis, who failed at a comeback after his career faltered in 2006, would spend his days watching movies instead of training.
"He was supposed to be training but he didn't train a day that I knew him," she said.
"He seemed aloof."
Salinas said the pair had amicably split in September 2007 and agreed to stay in touch. But after a chance meeting with some mutual friends, she called him and cut all ties. "I just called and left a message saying I was disappointed and please don't contact me anymore," Ms Salinas said.
